Judge Janice Miller Karlin was appointed as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Kansas in 2002, and was reappointed in 2016 to serve another 14-year term. In July 2016, the District Judges for the District of Kansas appointed her as Chief Judge for the Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas. Judge Karlin was also appointed to her first five year term on the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the  United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in 2008, and was reappointed in 2013. In September 2015, she was appointed Chief Judge of the BAP. Judge Karlin received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Kansas, and served as Note and Comment Editor for the Kansas University Law Review. Before taking the bench, Judge Karlin served as an Assistant United States Attorney for 22 years, concentrating on civil litigation in federal court.
